Walter's Place

Jongensfontein

Bliss is the sand between your toes and the sunburn on your nose

This elegant whitewashed double storey thatch roof sea facing guest house is perfectly positioned on the beach front.

Upper Level

The upper storey comprises a complete house with fully equipped kitchen, three bedrooms and two bathrooms, one en suite, the other shared. This unit can accommodate four adults and two young adults not younger than 18 years old.

The house is built in such a way that most of the rooms have a view of the ocean. Apart from the bedrooms and bathroom, the rest of the house forms one large open plan area.

Along the front of the upper level is a wide balcony equipped with outdoor furniture such as sun loungers where guests can enjoy the sun, the splendid view and the fresh air.

Lower Level

The ground level consists of three separate self-catering en suite rooms, each equipped with a kitchenette. Each unit can accommodate two guests and also has its own private entrance from the large covered sea facing veranda. One of these units is wheelchair friendly and a tad more spacious.

Guests occupying the ground level rooms share the porch with the stylish, yet comfortable wicker outdoor furniture. A Weber braai and tongs are available for guests’ use – preferably on the well-kept green lawn in front of the veranda.

Of All and Sundry

There is solar backup to supply electricity during load shedding. Televisions are supplied in all the units offering DSTV Premium Bouquet and free Wi-Fi is available throughout the building.

Safe parking is available on the premises as well as in the garage. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the accommodation, as well as the premises, pets are not allowed. Furthermore, only guests older than 18 years will be accommodated.

Since Walter’s Place offers self-catering accommodation, guests are responsible for their own meals. Purely by chance, though definitely convenient, the local restaurant, Drie Pikkewyne, is a mere 5 minute walk down the road.

Small private functions are available on request.

Beach & Tidal Pool

Simply cross the street, take a few strides to your left, down the steps and find a narrow sand strip and tiny tidal pool. An acceptable distance from the crowded main beach and large tidal pool.

About Us – This storybook seaside village is yet an exquisite treasure, its natural beauty beyond words. The town spreads along a long stretch of rocky coast with narrow patches of sandy beach scattered here and there. Because of the hilly nature of the area, many of the houses are hugging the slopes, making for some steep climbing to reach them. Huddled on one side of the main beach, as can be expected, is the neat caravan park. Follow Main Road through the town until you eventually reach the end of the tarred section. There you’ll find the large, natural tidal pool surrounded by big rocks, perfect for swimming as well as sunbathing.

Jongensfontein

Various Trails

About Us – The unspoiled nature around Jongensfontein presents ample opportunity for various types of trails. These, in fact, were specially developed with the active outdoor adventure lovers in mind. The Jongensfontein Reserve offers hiking, mountain biking, 4×2 as well as 4×4 trails, varying in distance. 4X4 enthusiasts can also tackle the Eden Park Sand Route which is about 6 km and makes for a whole lot of fun for the family. Furthermore there is the Southern Right Whale Hiking Trail of 8 km along the coast between Jongensfontein and Stilbaai. This is an open-ended trail which can, of course be walked from either side.

The rocky nature of the shore around Jongensfontein makes it ideal for rock fishing, thus many an angler are regularly out on the rocks. During the South African winter months, roughly from June to October you can, in fact, watch the southern right whales frolicking in the waves. Often families of dolphins seem to be putting up a show for spectators in the surf near the shore. As a matter of fact, surfers from far and wide love to surf the Jongensfontein breakers. Golfers, on the other hand, might be interested in playing a game or two on the Eden Park golf course, a 9-hole course over a distance of 2 000 m.

Jongensfontein residents do most of their business in the neighbouring town of Stilbaai, the preferred location for most businesses and services. But, for those everyday needs they need not make a trip to Stilbaai. Seesig Supermarket offers groceries as well as household implements, and most importantly, they sell fishing licenses, bait and tackle. Drie Pikkewyne Restaurant is a seaside eatery serving breakfast, dinner, lunch and also drinks. This casual family friendly restaurant is, as a matter of fact, licensed to sell liquor. At the same restaurant is also a small bottle store called Pik ‘n Wyntjie.

Some 10 km from Jongensfontein is the larger seaside town of Stilbaai. This village is, in fact, the business and service hub of the area. The town is developed around the Goukou River mouth which, of course, runs into the Indian Ocean in the middle of this bay. Stilbaai offers three clean and safe beaches, lots of water-sports as well as club sports. Also various other interesting activities and attractions in town as well as the surrounding area such as biking trails and tasting of local products right at their production site.
